Important Deadlines When Applying for an Emergency Leave Of Absence (ELOA)

When can a student apply for an ELOA?

  • An ELOA should be applied for during the term that the emergency has occurred.
  • The last date to apply for an ELOA is the last date to drop classes with a W for the term. Please click here for the current academic calendar.
    • Any request made later than 1 term after the emergency has occurred will not be considered.

How does a student return from an ELOA?

  • A student will indicate the term they wish to return in their application. If they need more time, or decide to return a term earlier, they can contact their academic advisor. They can also register for classes and it will change their enrollment status for the term to reflect the return to classes. 
  • All F1 and J1 students are required to meet with an Office of Global Services Advisor prior to going on and returning from an ELOA.
